We spent the entire night holed up just past the tree line.
The air was heavy with moisture so sound did not travel, which was good since the nervousness was palpable, and nobody could sit still. We smoked cigarettes crouched below the berms, and tried not to think about the next days’ action.
It had been a long week of waiting, we had staged twice before only to have everything called off due to the weather.
Not this time, this time it would be good.
hours before the sun poked a finger over the horizon we were roused by the sentries, this was it.
Time to go.
